Bourita calls for AI in the service of global peace
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita urged the international community to ensure a responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) to preserve global peace and security. Speaking at a high-level debate of the UN Security Council on Wednesday, he warned against malicious uses of AI, highlighting the rise of cyberattacks, AI-driven disinformation, and its potential exploitation by terrorist groups to destabilize democratic processes and fuel tensions.
Bourita called for ethical and inclusive governance of AI, suggesting investments in early warning systems, the use of AI to counter disinformation, and the mobilization of these technologies to address security risks linked to climate change. He reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and sustainable solutions in the face of global challenges.
