BCIJ Thwarts Terrorist Cell's Sinister Designs in Tiznit and Sidi Slimane
In a high-stakes operation, Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ), under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), dismantled a terrorist cell affiliated with the Daesh organization on Tuesday morning. The cell's members were active in the cities of Tiznit and Sidi Slimane, posing a grave threat to the Kingdom's security and the safety of its citizens.
This large-scale security operation, carried out by the elite Rapid Intervention Brigade, underscores Morocco's unwavering efforts to combat the perils of violent extremism and foil terrorist threats that endanger the nation's stability and the well-being of its people. The operation resulted in the arrest of four extremists aged between 22 and 44, according to a BCIJ statement.
Searches conducted at the suspects' residences led to the seizure of paramilitary equipment, including a tactical vest, a helmet, a scope, and a balaclava, as well as extremist manuscripts and various electronic devices, which will undergo thorough digital forensic analysis.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the members of this terrorist cell engaged in suspicious activities, aiming to mobilize financial resources and logistical support in preparation for executing terrorist plots within the Kingdom, with the intention of undermining public order.
The arrested individuals have been placed in custody for further interrogation under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office responsible for terrorism cases. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of their plans and projects, as well as identify any potential connections or ramifications of this cell, which once again highlights the resurgence of terrorist threats.
This operation serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges faced by Moroccan authorities in their relentless fight against the scourge of terrorism, safeguarding the nation's security, and upholding the principles of peace and stability.
