Anne-Claire Legendre proposed to lead Arab World Institute
Anne-Claire Legendre, a senior adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron on North Africa and the Middle East, has been proposed to succeed Jack Lang as head of the Arab World Institute, according to a statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Legendre, a figure combining political experience and cultural expertise, brings a long diplomatic career to the post. She served as France’s ambassador to Kuwait and as spokesperson for the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs before becoming a presidential adviser.
The announcement follows the resignation of Jack Lang, the former minister of culture under François Mitterrand, who stepped down amid controversies linked to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Members of the Arab World Institute’s board are set to review Legendre’s nomination, which reflects both her diplomatic credentials and her deep involvement in cultural affairs. Observers note that her appointment could strengthen ties between France and the Arab world through cultural diplomacy initiatives.
