In a recent interview with channel 2M, U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar paid tribute to the accomplishments of Moroccan women across various fields, citing examples that exemplify pride, prestige and power. As Morocco continues its journey of embracing modernity, these remarkable women are leading the way and serving as inspirations both at home and abroad.

Pride: The Atlas Lionesses' Historic Achievement

Ambassador Talwar beamed with pride as he referenced the Moroccan national women's football team, the Atlas Lionesses, and their historic run at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. Making their first-ever appearance at the prestigious tournament, the Lionesses defied expectations by reaching the round of 16, an extraordinary feat that filled Moroccans with immense national pride.

Prestige: Leaders in Science, Arts and Diplomacy

Moroccan women have distinguished themselves across diverse domains, earning prestigious positions in science, arts, architecture, government, and international diplomacy. The Ambassador highlighted two shining examples: Dr. Hasnaa Chennaoui Aoudjehane, a world-renowned expert on meteorites who generously shares her knowledge with young Moroccans, and Lamia Bennani-Smires, the director of the Technopark Center in Casablanca, which fosters entrepreneurship and economic development.

Power: Businesswomen and Inspiring Activists

Talwar celebrated the power of Moroccan women, noting that four Moroccan businesswomen were featured in Forbes' prestigious list of the 100 most powerful businesswomen in the Middle East and North Africa. He also praised Rabha El Haymar, the 2024 International Women of Courage Award recipient, whose determined fight to register her daughter born out of wedlock made her a powerful voice for children's rights in Morocco.

As the U.S. Ambassador eloquently stated, Moroccan women like El Haymar serve as "a source of inspiration for millions of people, not just in Morocco but around the world, not just for women, but also for men." Their achievements in sports, science, business, and activism reflect Morocco's embrace of modernity and the central role women play in the country's continued progress.
