Aït Taleb Affirms Free Hospitalization for Chronic and Incurable Diseases under AMO
In response to an oral query by the Istiqlalian Group for Unity and Egalitarianism in the House of Representatives regarding the challenges in accessing the Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO) system, Minister Khalid Aït Taleb assured that his department is well aware of the hurdles accompanying the transition from RAMED to AMO Tadamon. He stressed that his ministry has taken proactive steps by dispatching correspondences and issuing circulars to ensure that former RAMED beneficiaries suffering from chronic or incurable diseases can continue receiving treatment in public hospitals without charge.
Additionally, Aït Taleb noted that the government has bolstered the legal framework to extend medical coverage to all citizens, allocating 9.5 billion dirhams to secure medical benefits for approximately 11 million individuals who were previously enrolled in RAMED.
Responding to another query from the Haraki group regarding the challenges of universalizing the medical coverage system, the minister acknowledged that the automatic transition from RAMED to AMO Tadamon has raised social concerns regarding the exclusion of certain citizens due to ineligibility.
He clarified that eligibility criteria were determined based on the Unified Social Register, utilizing the 9.32 index, beyond which individuals are required to enroll in a medical coverage scheme corresponding to their social circumstances.
During the implementation of the medical coverage initiative, the minister acknowledged the possibility of specific social cases emerging and assured that solutions would be sought to ensure these individuals benefit from the program.
Aït Taleb's remarks underscore the government's commitment to facilitating equitable access to healthcare for all Moroccans, particularly those grappling with chronic or incurable illnesses. By addressing the challenges of transitioning from RAMED to AMO Tadamon and fortifying the legal framework, authorities aim to establish a comprehensive and inclusive medical coverage system that leaves no one behind.
As Morocco continues its pursuit of universal healthcare, the minister's assurances provide reassurance to those in need, reaffirming the nation's dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens, regardless of their socioeconomic status or medical condition.
