African insurance awards highlight innovation and digital transformation in Morocco
Insurance leaders and technology innovators gathered in Casablanca for the fourth edition of the African Insurance Awards, where industry players outlined the sector’s trajectory for the next decade across the continent.
The event, held at the Hyatt Regency Casablanca, brought together companies, startups, and institutions to showcase new models and solutions shaping the future of insurance in Africa. Organizers emphasized the sector’s role as a core component of economic systems, with increasing reliance on digital tools and innovation.
Created by 212assurances.com, the awards recognized achievements in innovation, resilience, and operational excellence with a pan-African scope. Participants highlighted the need to expand insurance access across the region, where penetration rates remain low, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Insurtech category drew strong attention. Startup FCB.ai won for its digital brokerage platform developed with Moroccan firm AGMA. The solution integrates customer management tools, conversational artificial intelligence through messaging platforms, and real-time multi-insurer pricing capabilities.
Industry representatives stressed that innovation remains critical to scaling insurance adoption. With penetration estimated at around 2 percent in parts of sub-Saharan Africa, the sector faces pressure to redesign products and distribution models to reach a broader population.
Several companies from across Africa were also recognized for innovations previously awarded during the FANAF event in Abidjan. These included solutions in digital claims processing, mobile insurance, and new savings and health products tailored to regional markets.
The ceremony’s main awards highlighted a range of digital and customer-focused innovations. DINO received recognition for a platform that simplifies insurance understanding in Darija using artificial intelligence. Repar Trust introduced a system that accelerates vehicle repair processes by improving spare parts access. Kooralink developed insurance products targeting athletes and football players. SMART MGA OS presented a wholesale brokerage model built on digital infrastructure, while Djolof deployed a messaging-based insurance subscription service accessible in rural areas.
Major insurance groups were also awarded for operational and service innovations. Allianz Maroc was recognized for digitizing workplace accident insurance processes. AXA Maroc received a distinction for communication initiatives supporting women facing critical situations. Sanlam Maroc introduced a green vehicle insurance product aligned with environmental goals. Groupe Afrique Assistance developed a digital mobility platform for customer support across Africa, while Wafa Ima Assistance launched a connected device designed to assist elderly users in emergency situations.
The event concluded with a special recognition for ACAPS, Morocco’s insurance regulator, for its educational platform aimed at improving financial literacy among young people. A separate honorary award was granted to Mohamed Jamal Bennouna for his long-term contribution to technical knowledge in the insurance sector.
The gathering underscored a shift toward technology-driven insurance models in Africa, with digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and mobile access emerging as key drivers of future growth.
