Morocco experienced an unprecedented surge in tourism in 2023, as a staggering 4.88 million French tourists flocked to the North African nation. This influx accounted for over one-third of the total 14.5 million tourists who visited Morocco last year, as per data released by Morocco's National Tourism Office.

The significant rise in French tourism played a pivotal role in propelling Morocco to new heights in the travel industry. With a total of 14.5 million visitors in 2023, this marked a remarkable 34% increase from the previous year and a noteworthy 12% surge compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Furthermore, tourism revenue skyrocketed to an impressive $9.8 billion by November, indicating a substantial 158% growth compared to the preceding year.

Marrakech emerged as the preferred destination for French travelers, who explored diverse regions from the serene beaches of Agadir to the bustling markets of Tangier. Constituting 33.6% of all visitor arrivals, the surge of French tourists has firmly established Morocco as a premier choice for holidaymakers from France.

Looking ahead, Morocco aspires to build on this momentum, setting an ambitious target of attracting 17 million annual visitors by 2026. The current trajectory suggests that this goal might be achieved sooner than anticipated. Fueled by the enthusiasm of French tourists and global travelers alike, Morocco's tourism sector has showcased a remarkable rebound from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis.
