In a heartwarming demonstration of international goodwill, Morocco has donated oncology medications valued at 317 thousand euros to Cape Verde. Adil Khlifi, the advisor and representative of the Moroccan Embassy in Dakar, formally presented this generous pharmaceutical gift to Filomena Gonçalves, the Cape Verdean Minister of Health, on Tuesday.

This thoughtful gesture is aimed at significantly enhancing cancer treatments and reducing the necessity for Cape Verdean patients to seek medical care overseas. "It is a pivotal moment in the collaboration between the two countries," commented Khlifi during the donation ceremony in Praia. He expressed optimism that the medications would usher in a new era of fruitful bilateral relations.

Minister Gonçalves graciously accepted the gift, acknowledging that the medications are in high demand globally and will enhance the quality of life for cancer patients, instilling greater hope. She explained that this donation is a result of a cooperation agreement forged last May, and it will empower Cape Verde to decrease the number of patient transfers to Portugal, which stood at 109 in 2019 and 82 in 2020.

By facilitating local treatment, these medications will not only reduce economic costs but also social ones, enabling patients to stay close to their families during recovery. Gonçalves emphasized that the 317 thousand euros would have a "significant impact" on Cape Verde's national pharmaceutical budget, which provides medications free of charge through the country's sole cancer treatment center in Praia.

This substantial medical gift signifies the strengthening of ties between Morocco and Cape Verde since the opening of a Moroccan consulate in Dakhla last August. It reflects the collaboration of both nations to achieve greater health security and sovereignty in the region and across Africa, establishing a positive trajectory for future engagements.
