Regragui Applauds Team's 'Impressive Start' in Morocco's Decisive AFCON 2023 Opener
Following Morocco's dominant 3-0 triumph over Tanzania in the inaugural match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, manager Walid Regragui lauded his team's performance, hailing it as a "remarkable debut" that has established a promising tone for their tournament journey.
During a post-match press conference on Thursday, Regragui acknowledged the inherent challenges of the first match, stating that "the initial encounter is always challenging." Nevertheless, he emphasized that his players successfully surmounted these challenges.
"We were fortunate to be the last in the group to play. We managed to handle that match well. It’s crucial to kick off the competition on a positive note," Regragui remarked.
The manager praised his players for adapting to the physical demands of the game and coping with challenging weather conditions. "I am pleased with the players’ performance. In Africa, you contend not only against opponents but also against adverse weather conditions," he observed.
Looking forward, Regragui conveyed that the team is approaching each match with a focused mindset. Their upcoming challenge is against DR Congo on Sunday, with an unusually early 2 PM kickoff presenting another obstacle. However, Regragui expressed confidence in his team's ability to navigate such constraints.
As Morocco prepares to face DR Congo, aiming to secure another crucial 3 points, Regragui's attention remains steadfast on steering the team through the competition successfully. With a quietly optimistic tone, he believes that his team's adaptability and strong performance in the opener bode well for the remainder of their AFCON 2023 campaign.
