The discontinuation of intercountry adoption from Morocco marks a setback for families in Flanders.

Morocco, Gambia, and Haiti have been excluded from collaboration with countries of origin for adoption, owing to the rigorous screening process implemented by the Flemish government. This decision, influenced by past concerns about transparency, particularly affects families from Flanders who are keen on international adoption.

Burkina Faso faces a potential abrupt suspension due to safety concerns. However, adoption approval remains in effect for other countries, such as Bulgaria and the Philippines, ensuring the seamless continuation of procedures for Flanders' families.

Bruno Vanobbergen, the Administrator-General of the Growing Up agency, emphasizes the paramount importance of prioritizing the child's welfare and maintaining stringent quality standards. This action underscores the government's commitment to transparent adoption procedures.
