Rabat – In a pivotal meeting on Monday in Rabat, representatives of education unions, signatories of the January 14, 2023 agreement, expressed satisfaction with the government's constructive engagement regarding their demands. The session, presided over by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, resulted in a consensus on crucial issues aimed at enhancing the working conditions of teachers.

Following the meeting, union leaders highlighted the government's endorsement of demands pertaining to the freezing of the new status for National Education civil servants and an improvement in the sector's employees' income. Miloud Maassid, the Secretary General of the National Education Federation (UMT), conveyed a positive atmosphere during the discussions, emphasizing the government's political will to enhance the material conditions of civil servants in the sector and refrain from salary deductions for strikers.

Maassid further disclosed that an upcoming meeting with the ministerial commission, appointed by the Prime Minister to address issues related to the status of national education officials, will focus on reviewing and amending the existing text, as well as discussions on salary increases.

Youssef Allakouch, Secretary General of the Free Teaching Federation (UGMT), acknowledged the government's agreement on four key points raised by the unions. These points included the freezing and subsequent amendment of the teachers' status, income improvement for education civil servants, and the halt of administrative measures and levies against strikers. Allakouch characterized this as a positive step toward diffusing tensions in the sector.

Youness Firachina, Secretary General of the National Education Union (CDT), echoed the positive climate of the meeting, emphasizing that the freezing of the status of national education officials opens the door for comprehensive discussions on amending the text to address teacher demands, including those related to salary increases.

Sadiq Rghioui, General Secretary of the National Education Union (FDT), affirmed that the meeting successfully addressed union demands, citing the freezing of the status, remuneration revision, payroll deductions, income improvement, and the continuation of initiated dialogues as key points.

Noteworthy attendees at the meeting included the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Business, Employment, and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, and the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa (via videoconference).
