Morocco witnessed the imposition of stringent prison sentences this week in two distinct terrorism cases. The Rabat Criminal Court, specializing in terrorism trials, rendered verdicts ranging from 2 to 8 years of incarceration.

The most severe sentence, an 8-year term, was handed to S.O. The court upheld charges of forming a criminal organization to plan and execute terrorist attacks, along with publicly endorsing terrorism. Additionally, S.O. was fined 40,000 Moroccan dirhams (approximately $4,000 USD).

In another case, a second defendant, A.S., received a more lenient 2-year sentence for publicly endorsing terrorism and engaging in propaganda on behalf of a terrorist group.

These cases underscore Morocco's unwavering commitment to zero-tolerance policies and stringent measures against terrorist activities or expressions of support for extremist causes. In the face of ongoing activities by cells affiliated with ISIS and Al-Qaeda in parts of North Africa, regional authorities are resolutely prosecuting such networks.
