Ligue 1: Hakimi and Ben Seghir Nominated for Marc-Vivien Foé Award
Achraf Hakimi and Eliesse Ben Seghir, two players from Morocco, are among the 12 finalists for the Marc-Vivien Foé Award, which recognizes the best African player in Ligue 1. What are their chances of winning the prestigious prize?
The winner who will succeed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the recipient of the Marc-Vivien Foé Award will be announced on May 12. France 24 and RFI revealed the list of 12 nominees on Tuesday, including two Moroccan players. Eliesse Ben Seghir, 20, has been a breakout talent this season at AS Monaco, standing out as one of their top goal scorers. His compatriot, Achraf Hakimi, currently excelling at Paris Saint-Germain, is also among the finalists.
Hakimi, considered by many as the favorite compared to other nominees, joined PSG in 2021 and quickly became an essential part of their defense. This marks his fourth nomination for the award, having finished second last season. Will this be the year he claims the top spot?
Other notable finalists include Senegalese players Lamine Camara (AS Monaco), Habib Diarra (RC Strasbourg), and Moussa Niakhaté (Olympique Lyonnais), Algerians Himad Abdelli (Angers) and Amine Gouiri (Rennes-OM), Ivorians Yahia Fofana (Angers), Evann Guessand (OGC Nice), and Hamed Junior Traoré (AJ Auxerre), Guinea’s Abdoulaye Touré (Le Havre), and Nigeria’s Moses Simon (FC Nantes).
The winner will be announced on Monday, May 12.
