Severe weather alert: Morocco braces for snow and storms
Severe winter weather conditions are set to impact numerous provinces across Morocco this weekend, according to an announcement from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
From Saturday 6 PM to Sunday 6 PM, significant snowfall ranging from 15 to 30 centimeters is expected to blanket the provinces of Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Azilal, Béni Mellal, and Midelt. Additionally, lighter snowfall of 5 to 10 centimeters will affect Taroudant, El Haouz, Ifrane, Khénifra, Figuig, and Boulemane provinces.
Heavy thunderstorms with rainfall between 25 and 35 millimeters, accompanied by localized hail and storm gusts, will impact El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Settat, Azilal, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Saleh, and Béni Mellal from Saturday 6 PM to Sunday 9 AM. Lesser rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 millimeters are forecast for Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Nouaceur, Khénifra, and Mediouna.
The weather system will also bring strong wind gusts reaching speeds of 70 to 85 kilometers per hour on Sunday from 6 AM to 6 PM, particularly affecting Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Errachidia, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, and Guelmim.
