US suspends military aid to Ukraine amidst Zelensky dispute
The United States has temporarily halted its military assistance to Ukraine following a contentious White House meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The suspension aims to pressure Kyiv into advancing peace negotiations with Russia, as Trump prioritizes ending the prolonged conflict. This move echoes Trump’s 2019 decision to withhold congressional aid to Ukraine while pressuring Zelensky to investigate then-presidential candidate Joe Biden—an episode that led to Trump's first impeachment.
With his 2024 election victory, Trump has intensified efforts to swiftly conclude the war. He has voiced frustration with Zelensky while expressing confidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s commitment to peace. Trump's dissatisfaction escalated after Zelensky recently remarked that a resolution to the war remains distant, prompting Trump to criticize his lack of appreciation for U.S. support.
