First monkeypox case detected in Azerbaijan as traveler tests positive
A 22-year-old Azerbaijani citizen has become the country's first confirmed monkeypox case following their return from abroad, according to health officials. The Ministry of Health and the Administration of Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB) issued a joint statement confirming the diagnosis.
The patient sought medical attention after experiencing multiple symptoms, including fatigue, fever, vesicular rashes, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle pain. PCR testing of samples from the patient's skin lesions yielded positive results for the monkeypox virus.
Medical authorities have placed the patient under hospital care for treatment. Family members who had contact with the infected individual remain under medical observation at home, though none have displayed symptoms of the illness.
