Tangier's security forces achieved a significant victory this week by intercepting an attempt to smuggle over 3 tons of cannabis resin through the Tangier-Med Port. Collaborating with customs officials, the police uncovered the illicit cargo cleverly concealed within a truck transporting seafood destined for Europe on Sunday.

The drug seizure, comprising 3.255 tons of cannabis resin locally known as chira, was discreetly stashed within the trailer of a fish-laden truck. Authorities halted the truck just before its departure from Morocco by sea, bound for an undisclosed European port.

Following the interception, law enforcement promptly apprehended the truck driver, a 32-year-old Moroccan national, who remains in custody. Tangier's judicial police, under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office, are actively investigating the case to uncover the full extent of this trafficking operation, both domestically and internationally, and to identify any additional collaborators.

This Sunday's seizure underscores the intensified efforts of Morocco's General Directorate of National Security in combating international drug smuggling networks. Despite this significant breakthrough, authorities emphasize that the battle against drug trafficking is ongoing and far from concluded.
