Morocco's Ambitious Journey: Crafting its First Aircraft by 2030
Morocco is poised to ascend into the realm of global aerospace manufacturing by the end of the decade. Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour recently affirmed the nation's commitment to unveiling its first entirely domestically produced aircraft by 2026.
In an interview with the “Al-Sharq Bloomberg” channel, Minister Mezzour underscored Morocco's burgeoning aeronautics industry, emphasizing its current standing as the 20th largest globally. He also highlighted the inauguration of a new production facility responsible for a critical engine component, a task traditionally monopolized by only five countries.
With a solid foundation of expertise already in place, Minister Mezzour outlined the unveiling of a fully Moroccan aircraft as the next pivotal milestone. "Achieving this objective before 2030 would firmly establish Morocco as a leader in intricate manufacturing," he proclaimed.
Given that the aerospace sector demands even greater sophistication than automotive manufacturing, this accomplishment could position Morocco as a formidable player in the global industry. Minister Mezzour expressed confidence in the country's strategic partnerships, foreseeing them as instrumental in propelling Morocco to this new frontier.
Looking beyond aviation, Minister Mezzour articulated Morocco's broader industrial vision, which includes priorities such as food security, renewable energy, and enhancing intra-African trade. Through strategic collaboration between coastal and inland nations, he aims to elevate commerce between neighboring countries from 15% to 26%.
These ambitious targets are aligned with Morocco's ongoing efforts to develop an integrated electric battery production chain, signaling a commitment to sustainable growth. With Minister Mezzour painting an optimistic picture of the country's trajectory, it appears that Morocco is poised to make a significant mark on the global aerospace landscape with the debut of its pioneering aircraft.
