Atlas Lions Seek Redemption in Friendly Matches Against Angola and Mauritania
The Moroccan national football team is gearing up to redeem themselves after a disappointing exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as they prepare for friendly matches against Angola and Mauritania in March.
The Atlas Lions suffered a setback in their AFCON journey last month when they were unexpectedly knocked out by South Africa in the round of 16, shattering their hopes of clinching the title. However, head coach Walid Regragui sees the upcoming international break as an opportunity to reassess tactics and strategies ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers.
Morocco's first challenge will be against Angola on March 22nd at the Grand Stadium in Agadir, followed by a match against Mauritania on March 26th at the same venue, where they will fine-tune their preparations.
"We are dedicated to objectively evaluating our performance and making necessary improvements," expressed Regragui following AFCON. He held discussions with Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, who reiterated his support for the coach despite the team's early exit.
Both Regragui and Lekjaa have their sights set on future tournaments, including AFCON 2025 and the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco is set to co-host. The upcoming friendlies present an opportunity for Morocco to experiment with new approaches and players as they strive to strengthen the team for these significant competitions.
Following their dashed AFCON aspirations, the Atlas Lions are determined to make a strong comeback in March as they sharpen their skills and gear up for the challenges ahead.
