Morocco Emerges as Top Source for French Visa Applications in 2023
In a testament to the evolving dynamics between France and Morocco, recent data highlights Morocco's ascendance as the primary source country for French visa applications in 2023. Figures from Schengen Visa Statistics, disclosed to Morocco World News, reveal a notable milestone: Moroccan citizens submitted a staggering 310,057 visa applications, outpacing neighboring Algeria, which trailed with 279,005 applications.
This surge in Moroccan visa applications coincides with mounting frustrations among applicants, stemming from perceived unjustified rejections and appointment delays, despite France's move to normalize consular services with Morocco in December 2022. The recent data indicates a visa approval rate of 81.26%.
Behar Sadiky, a prominent figure in global travel and tourism as part of Schengen Visa Info, acknowledged this consistent trend, noting, "Though the figures remain below pre-pandemic levels, particularly for Algeria, they align with the overall decline in Schengen visa applications worldwide."
Further analysis of the data reveals a staggering 92.49% increase in Moroccan visa applications to France in 2023 compared to 2022, rising from 161,047 to 310,057 applications. Morocco also claimed the top spot in visa applications for Spain, with 189,126 submissions, of which 123,270 were approved, reflecting a 65.18% approval rate.
