In a shocking turn of events, the tranquil city of Safi has been rocked by a heinous act of violation within the walls of an integration center. This appalling incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting the local branch of the Moroccan Human Rights Association (AMDH) to call upon the regional governor to intervene and address what they describe as "infractions" committed by a senior official in the management of a center dedicated to the integration and social support of women and children in distress.

The AMDH's plea to the governor highlights a "grave" case of sexual assault and harassment endured by residents of the center. The organization alleges that the accused individual "overstepped all boundaries by subjecting the women at the center to violence and sexual exploitation. After his scandal came to light, he further defamed them through media outlets, accusing them with offensive and inappropriate language."

The situation has taken on a more complex dimension as local public opinion within Safi circulates information and news suggesting that the individual in question derives his power from influential figures and his proximity to high-ranking officials. This alleged connection has emboldened him to act freely within the center, believing that his close ties with authorities will shield him from accountability for his actions and behaviors.

The human rights activists in Safi have demanded the immediate dismissal of the association's president from his role in managing and overseeing the integration and social support center for women and children in distress. They have also urged an investigation into the relationships between certain administrative officials and the association, accusing them of attempting to cover up and protect the accused. "Relying on their influence to oppress the victims among the vulnerable and impoverished women facing difficult circumstances," according to the same source.

The local AMDH branch had previously announced its intervention in what it described as a sexual harassment scandal involving residents of the support center for women and children in distress in Safi. The organization expressed grave concern over the pressures and interventions from various parties to contain this "scandal" and avoid the necessary sanctions for all those implicated.

In a previous statement, the association questioned the reasons behind granting the building to the association in charge, as it was initially intended to become a dormitory for students as part of efforts to combat school dropout. The AMDH highlighted that pressure from authorities led to the allocation of an annual grant of fifty thousand dirhams to this association, to the detriment of other organizations.

The same source explained that the sexual harassment case was initially reported to the National Cooperation Delegation in Safi by an informant, but no action was taken to address it. It was only after a complaint was filed with the Public Prosecutor at the Safi Court of Appeal that an investigation was launched, resulting in the transfer of two residents, including a minor, to another association.

The governor of the Safi province had previously sent correspondence to the president of the Safi commune, requesting the addition of two points to the agenda of the February 2024 ordinary session. One of these points concerns the approval of a partnership agreement aimed at supporting the management costs of the integration and social support center for women and children in distress in Safi.
