Manama Summit: Morocco's Crucial Role in Promoting Regional Stability
The Bahrain Declaration, issued at the 33rd Arab Summit in Manama, strongly endorses Morocco's steadfast commitment to regional peace and security. It commends the Kingdom's dedicated efforts in contributing to stability across the region, emphasizing Morocco's pivotal role in navigating complex geopolitical landscapes and fostering an environment conducive to conflict resolution.
The communiqué pays tribute to Morocco's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, highlighting the nation's substantial contribution of $12.5 million towards bolstering the capital of the Jerusalem Fund. This recognition coincides with King Mohammed VI's unequivocal condemnation of Israeli aggression targeting civilians in Gaza, reaffirming Morocco's solidarity with the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights.
In his address to the summit participants in Rabat, King Mohammed VI asserted, "The situation in Gaza only enhances our determination to ensure the Palestinian issue remains at the core of efforts to establish a just and lasting peace in the Middle East." These words resonate with the declaration's acknowledgment of Morocco's tireless endeavors in championing the Palestinian cause.
Beyond its support for the Palestinian struggle, the Bahrain Declaration lauds Morocco's efforts in combating extremism and promoting moderate Islamic values. It highlights the pivotal roles played by the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars and the Mohammed VI Institute for Training of Imams and Guides, hailing their contributions as beacons of tolerance, coexistence, and a counterweight to radical ideologies.
Arab leaders, through this declaration, send an unequivocal message emphasizing the necessity of refraining from providing any form of support, explicit or implicit, to entities or individuals involved in terrorist activities, including militias or irregular armed groups. They firmly reject all forms of extortion by terrorist groups, recognizing the grave threat posed by these illegitimate armed entities to the security, stability, and territorial integrity of member states.
Furthermore, the declaration reiterates its endorsement of Morocco's diplomatic endeavors in the Libyan dossier, underscoring the centrality of the political agreement signed in Skhirat in 2015 as a framework for a political solution in Libya. Morocco's steadfast encouragement of Libyan representatives to engage in political dialogue and its rejection of foreign intervention in the reconciliation process have garnered acclaim from both Libyan officials and UN diplomats familiar with the Libyan crisis.
As the reverberations of this momentous declaration echo across the region, it stands as a testament to Morocco's crucial role in fostering regional stability, conflict resolution, and the promotion of moderate Islamic values, a role that has garnered the respect and admiration of its Arab peers.
