The 15th edition of Morocco's prestigious Salon du Cheval opened its gates on September 30 at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Center in El Jadida, marking a significant milestone in cultural exchange between Morocco and Qatar. Prince Moulay Rachid officially inaugurated the event, which brings together equestrian enthusiasts from 40 countries.

This year's exhibition holds special significance as it coincides with the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, a initiative aimed at strengthening cultural ties between the two nations. The theme, "Horse Breeding in Morocco: Innovation and Challenge," sets the stage for a comprehensive exploration of advancements and obstacles in equestrian practices.

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) made a notable appearance at the Salon, reinforcing its role as a platinum sponsor since 2018. QREC's president, Issa bin Mohammed Al-Mohannadi, presented Prince Moulay Rachid with a ceremonial shield, symbolizing the strong partnership between Qatar and Morocco in equestrian pursuits.

Visitors to the QREC pavilion were treated to an impressive display of Qatar's contributions to global equestrian sports, including Arabian horse races and sponsorships of major events like the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. This showcase serves as a testament to Qatar's commitment to preserving and promoting equestrian heritage on an international scale.

The Salon du Cheval offers a diverse program of events, including the Grand Prix of King Mohammed VI in show jumping and the International Arabian Horse Show. A highlight of the exhibition is the Grand Prix of King Mohammed VI of Tbourida, a traditional Moroccan equestrian performance that captivates audiences with its dramatic display of horsemanship and cultural significance.

Beyond competitive events, the Salon celebrates the multifaceted nature of equestrian culture through art exhibitions, historical displays, and scientific conferences. Artisans, saddle makers, and farriers showcase their craftsmanship, bridging the gap between traditional techniques and modern innovations in horse breeding and care.

The Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture initiative, supported by both countries' cultural ministries and embassies, aims to create lasting legacies through shared experiences. This collaboration extends beyond the Salon du Cheval, encompassing various events throughout the year that highlight the rich cultural heritage of both nations.

As one of the most prominent events on the international equestrian calendar, the Salon du Cheval continues to draw thousands of visitors and experts from around the world. Last year's edition attracted 160,000 visitors over seven days, featuring 100 exhibitors from 40 countries.

The Salon du Cheval not only showcases the beauty and power of horses but also serves as a platform for cultural dialogue, economic cooperation, and the exchange of knowledge in equestrian sciences. As Morocco and Qatar continue to strengthen their ties through this shared passion, the event stands as a testament to the unifying power of cultural heritage in fostering international relationships.
