Escalation on the Northern Front: Israeli Forces Launch Ground Offensive in Lebanon
Israeli troops have officially advanced into southern Lebanon, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they have initiated "targeted ground raids" aimed at Hezbollah positions in villages near the border. This operation, described as "limited, localized, and targeted," is supported by aerial bombardments and artillery fire, which began early Tuesday morning.
The IDF's statement indicates that these operations are a response to the perceived threats posed by Hezbollah, particularly following a series of low-intensity strikes initiated by the group after Israel declared war on Gaza last October. The military's move comes after weeks of heavy airstrikes against Hezbollah, including a recent attack that killed the group's long-time leader, Hassan Nasrallah. In light of these developments, Israeli officials have expressed confidence in their ability to weaken Hezbollah's operational capabilities significantly.
As the ground offensive commenced, airstrikes were reported across Beirut, with plumes of smoke rising from southern suburbs known to be strongholds for Hezbollah.
