Arab League Council Addresses Israel's Ban on UNRWA Activities Amid Rising Tensions
During the meeting, Sahar Al-Jobury, the UNRWA representative in Egypt, emphasized the potential consequences of halting the agency's activities, particularly in a region already beset by conflict and unrest. She warned that such a move could undermine one of the key pillars of stability in the area. Al-Jobury highlighted the agency's significant contributions over the past year, noting that 237 UNRWA employees have lost their lives and over 200 buildings have been damaged, actions she described as violations of international humanitarian law.
Ait Ouali reiterated Morocco's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, which King Mohammed VI, as the president of the Al-Quds Committee, regards as a fundamental aspect of the nation's foreign policy. He pointed out the King's consistent advocacy for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their aspiration for an independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This, he argued, is essential for ensuring peace and stability in the region.
The Moroccan diplomat also highlighted the King's humanitarian initiatives, which have included the delivery of substantial medical and food aid to Palestinians. These efforts, he stated, reflect Morocco's concrete commitment to the Palestinian cause and its ongoing concern for the welfare of its people.
Ait Ouali expressed Morocco's opposition to any unilateral actions that could exacerbate extremism and violence in the region. He reaffirmed the country's role as a constructive participant in efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and just peace that respects the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in line with established regional and international frameworks.
