In a significant diplomatic gesture, King Mohammed VI of Morocco has extended an invitation to French President Emmanuel Macron for a state visit to Morocco. This invitation follows France's recent endorsement of Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces in Sahara, a development that has been warmly welcomed by the Moroccan monarch.

King Mohammed VI communicated his invitation through a formal letter addressed to President Macron, expressing his readiness to host the French leader. "In this regard, and as was mentioned during Our previous discussions, I will be happy to receive You in Morocco within the framework of a State Visit," the King stated, indicating that the specifics of the visit would be arranged through diplomatic channels.

The Moroccan King expressed his gratitude for France's unequivocal stance on the Sahara issue. "I fully appreciate Your country’s clear support for Morocco’s sovereignty over this part of its territory, the resolute French support for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty to settle this regional dispute, thereby establishing the plan proposed by Morocco, since 2007, as the only basis for achieving it," the letter read.

This diplomatic exchange comes on the heels of President Macron's declaration that "the present and future" of Sahara “lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.” Macron's statement underscores a notable shift in France’s foreign policy, aligning it with Morocco's long-standing position on the contentious region.

King Mohammed VI highlighted the significance of France’s new stance, noting that it aligns with the broader international support Morocco has garnered. He commended France for its commitment to backing Morocco's territorial integrity both nationally and internationally. "The Moroccan people and its vital forces are fully aware of the importance of the European country's new position," the King remarked.

The monarch also emphasized the promising prospects for Moroccan-French relations, buoyed by this positive diplomatic momentum. "Thanks to the positive momentum that Our bilateral relations are experiencing, promising prospects are opening up for Our two countries in many strategic sectors, making it possible to strengthen the exceptional partnership built over decades on friendship and trust," he added.

This diplomatic development follows an official statement from the royal cabinet, which confirmed France's decision to recognize Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces. The statement reiterated Macron’s view that the future of Sahara is intrinsically linked to Moroccan sovereignty.

As Morocco and France move forward, this invitation marks a potential turning point in their bilateral relations, paving the way for further cooperation and mutual support in various strategic sectors.
