Turmoil in Governance: Benkirane Condemns Akhannouch Administration's Handling of Public Affairs
Abdelilah Benkirane, the Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), has once again voiced his discontent with the administration of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch. In a recent party meeting held in Rabat, Benkirane did not hold back in his critique, denouncing what he perceives as the government's haphazard and directionless management of public affairs.
Benkirane's remarks centered on what he described as the "chaotic" handling of various critical issues, accusing the government of not only failing to address pressing problems but also exacerbating them. He highlighted the ongoing strikes by medical professionals as a glaring example of the administration's inefficiency and poor crisis management. According to Benkirane, the government's inability to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts has allowed these issues to spiral out of control.
This critique is part of a broader pattern of public disapproval from Benkirane towards Akhannouch's administration. Earlier this month, Benkirane lambasted the government's approach to dealing with protests by Moroccan teachers and medical students. He argued that the administration has consistently failed to engage in meaningful dialogue or seek reconciliation, opting instead for contradictory and ineffective measures. He noted inconsistencies in the government's responses, particularly regarding wage demands and disciplinary actions, which he believes reflect a deeper problem in governance.
Furthermore, Benkirane expressed his disapproval of certain educational reforms proposed by the current government. He specifically targeted Minister of Higher Education Abdellatif Miraoui's plan to integrate "shikhat," performers of Moroccan folk music, into the higher education curriculum. Benkirane criticized this initiative as a misallocation of educational resources, questioning its relevance and efficacy in addressing the country's educational priorities.
As Benkirane continues to be a vocal critic of Akhannouch's administration, his statements contribute to the ongoing debate about the direction and effectiveness of the current government. His pointed criticisms underscore the challenges facing the administration and highlight the need for more coherent and effective governance strategies to address Morocco's pressing issues.
