Israeli Air Strikes Target Military Sites in Central Syria, Leaving 14 Dead
Israeli air strikes on military sites in central Syria resulted in the deaths of at least 14 individuals, according to reports from Syrian state media. The Syrian news agency Sana has reported that these attacks, which occurred on Sunday night in the Masyaf area of Hama province, also left 43 people injured.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights detailed that the strikes hit both military and scientific facilities where Iran-backed armed groups were reportedly active. The strikes reportedly led to the deaths of at least four soldiers and three civilians, and caused significant damage, including the destruction of local infrastructure and a fire in the Hair Abbas area.
Israeli military officials have refrained from commenting on the specific incidents but have acknowledged their general practice of targeting sites in Syria linked to Iranian interests and affiliated armed groups. This increased military activity follows heightened tensions and retaliatory actions related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
According to a Syrian military source, Israeli aircraft launched missiles from north-western Lebanon targeting several military sites in central Syria around 23:20 local time. Syrian air defenses managed to intercept some of the missiles during the attack.
The air strikes come amidst a broader pattern of intensified Israeli operations in Syria, reflecting ongoing regional tensions and the complex dynamics of international and regional security.
