50th OCI Foreign Ministers Council: Infrastructure Development Key to Combating Poverty and Insecurity
The 50th session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers commenced on Thursday in Yaoundé, Cameroon, with the participation of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Led by Morocco’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative to the OIC, Mustapha Mansouri, the Moroccan delegation includes the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Cameroon, Mostafa Bouh, the Head of the Arab and Islamic Organizations Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Abdelali Al-Jahed, and the OIC file handler at the Directorate of Mashreq, Gulf, and Arab and Islamic Organizations.
Themed “Development of Intra-OIC Transport and Communication Infrastructures: A Major Tool to Combat Poverty and Insecurity,” the session will address political, economic, and social issues, as well as the challenges currently facing the Muslim world.
Participants will discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, the Middle East peace process, and the evolving situation in Afghanistan and the Sahel region.
Over the two-day meeting, delegates will also tackle disarmament, cooperation between the OIC and other international and regional organizations, and the OIC Declaration on Human Rights.
The agenda includes continuous efforts to combat international terrorism, UN reform, the expansion of the UN Security Council, Islamophobia, and the situation of Muslim communities and minorities in non-OIC member states.
In addition to the OIC-2025 Action Plan, the Council will review decisions related to humanitarian, legal, administrative, financial, scientific, technological, and cultural issues.
The opening ceremony, attended by Mohamed Salem Echarkaoui, Director in charge of the management of the Bayt Mal Al-Qods Acharif Agency, was presided over by the Cameroonian Minister of External Relations. The event featured the election of the Bureau members of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC and the transfer of the presidency.
This session underscores the OIC’s commitment to addressing critical global issues and fostering cooperation among its member states. The focus on infrastructure development highlights the organization’s strategic approach to tackling poverty and insecurity, aligning with the broader goals of sustainable development and regional stability.
The meeting serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration, reinforcing the OIC’s role in promoting peace, security, and economic growth within the Muslim world and beyond.
