Moroccan Applicants Top List of Visa Denials from Spain in 2023
In a revealing statistic that sheds light on the complexities of international travel, Morocco emerged as the country with the highest number of visa rejections from Spain in 2023. The figures, as reported by Schengen News, paint a vivid picture of the intricate landscape of visa applications and approvals.
According to the data, Spain rejected a staggering 51,000 visa applications from Moroccan nationals last year, placing Morocco at the forefront of countries facing the most denials. Moroccan applicants accounted for 13.3% of all visa requests received by Spain and 20.3% of the total visas denied, with a rejection rate of 27.1% for Moroccan applications.
Despite this sobering statistic, Morocco maintained its position as the second-largest recipient of Schengen visas from Spain, trailing only China, with 123,000 visas granted to Moroccan nationals.
Interestingly, the overall rate of visa applications from Morocco to Spain experienced a 6.1% decrease in 2023, dropping from 201,000 to 189,000 applications.
The top ten countries of origin for visa applicants to Spain that faced the highest rejection rates in 2023 were Algeria, Ecuador, Russia, India, Pakistan, Egypt, the Dominican Republic, and Bolivia.
