Eid Al Adha: Morocco Calls for Vigilance Amid Traffic Surge and Severe Weather
Government Issues Safety Advisory to Ensure Public Safety During the Festive Period
As Morocco prepares for the celebratory period of Eid Al Adha, set to commence on Monday, the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) has released a detailed advisory, urging all road users to exercise increased caution. This call to action coincides with forecasts of heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions that could pose significant risks to travelers.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued alerts for strong winds and local dust storms expected to impact several provinces over the weekend leading up to Eid. According to the DGM’s weather alert, gusts ranging from 75 to 85 kilometers per hour are anticipated from Friday evening to early Saturday morning in provinces such as Ouarzazate, Zagora, Tata, Tinghir, and Errachidia. Additionally, wind speeds between 80 and 90 km/h are forecasted for Saturday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm in areas including Midelt, Taourirt, Guercif, Boulemane, Tinghir, Zagora, Errachidia, Figuig, Berkane, Jerada, and Oujda-Angad.
These conditions are expected to significantly impair visibility and elevate the risk of road accidents, particularly on national roads and highways. In light of these challenges, NARSA has emphasized the crucial importance of adhering to road safety protocols. They have advised drivers to respect speed limits, maintain safe distances, and ensure their vehicles are equipped with functional headlights and windshield wipers to cope with reduced visibility.
In preparation for the increased travel associated with Eid Al Adha, NARSA has also recommended that drivers perform thorough mechanical checks on their vehicles before setting out. Essential components such as brakes, tires, and lights should be inspected to guarantee optimal performance and safety. Passengers are reminded to wear seat belts at all times, and it is particularly stressed that children under 10 years old should be seated in the back with their seat belts fastened securely.
Furthermore, NARSA has encouraged travelers to meticulously plan their routes in advance, taking into account potential traffic congestion and unfavorable weather conditions. This proactive approach is aimed at minimizing risks and ensuring a safer travel experience for all.
As the nation looks forward to the Eid Al Adha celebrations, these advisories serve as a timely reminder of the importance of safety and preparedness.
