Before it closes this summer, be sure to immerse yourself in a vibrant world of color and form as this art exhibition transports you to a realm of breathtaking beauty and profound connection.

Lamia Skiredj’s work of organic shapes and vivid colors breathes life, drawing viewers into a secret garden where every detail tells a unique story.

The "Seeds & Vegetal" exhibition by artist Skiredj kicked off last year with a vernissage on June 29, 2023, hosted by Art First Gallery in collaboration with D’art Dart gallery. The event, held at the American Arts Center in Casablanca, has been met with enthusiasm and will continue to captivate audiences until June 30.

Born in San Antonio, United States, Skiredj’s work transcends mere representation of nature; she interprets and reimagines it, crafting pieces that inspire wonder and contemplation. Her creations evoke a profound appreciation for the fragile beauty of the natural world and an irresistible urge to protect it. Through her art, Skiredj rekindles our connection to the ecosystem, reminding us of our integral role within it.

"My intuition and inspiration led me to explore a new direction," Skiredj was quoted as saying in the release. Skiredj had previously focused on faces and the selfie culture. "The pandemic of 2020 spurred me to address the theme of 'vegetal' in contrast to my earlier work. This shift birthed a new period I call 'Seeds & Vegetal,' where plants are portrayed with the significance of a living body."

Skiredj’s fascination with humanity’s relationship with nature shines through in her art. In a society increasingly leaning towards a virtual, uninhabitable world dominated by internet images, our tangible connection to nature is fading. This growing detachment creates an artificial filter between us and the natural world. Through her works, Skiredj explores the following question: “What significance does the depiction of plants hold in today’s context?" The pandemic allowed her to immerse herself in her paintings, living with them and losing herself in their delicate, disordered beauty. Some pieces are saturated, inviting deep immersion, highlighting the delicate balance and chaos of nature.

"Seeds and Vegetal" is more than an exhibition; it's an invitation to rediscover and revere the intricate bond we share with the natural world.

According to VOS artists website, Skiredj pursued studies in interior architecture and Fine Arts at the Paris American Academy and received further training in interior architecture and design at the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia in 1991. Afterward, she worked for four years at the office of architect Michel Pinseau in Paris and then in Rabat from 1991 to 1994. Following this, she joined the Creation department of the Maison de l'Artisan until 2006. Her first exhibition dates back to 1991 in Paris. Currently, she is responsible for project management in the production design department at the Ministry of Handicrafts.
