Congressional Delegation Commends King Mohammed VI for Advancing Regional Stability
During a recent visit to Morocco, a United States congressional delegation emphasized His Majesty King Mohammed VI's pivotal role in promoting peace and stability in the region. Following discussions with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Rabat, the delegation members praised the depth of cooperation between the two nations and commended Morocco's contributions under the King's leadership.
Congressman August Pfluger, a member of the delegation, underscored the "extremely important" ties between Morocco and the United States, applauding Morocco's efforts alongside its strategic ally to foster a more stable and secure regional environment. Pfluger commended the robust cooperation spanning security and trade, including the longstanding free trade agreement (FTA) between the two nations.
Highlighting the significance of security cooperation, Pfluger referenced the African Lion exercise, a multinational endeavor hosted by Morocco for 18 consecutive years. This exercise brings together military officials and personnel from the U.S., Morocco, and numerous other countries to address transnational crimes and terrorist threats through joint maneuvers.
"Morocco is a regional and global leader," Pfluger remarked, expressing gratitude for the country's efforts to promote peace, prosperity, and security worldwide in partnership with the U.S.
Echoing similar sentiments, Congresswoman Lou Correa lauded the excellence of the U.S.-Morocco partnership, calling for further consolidation of cooperation between the two nations. She described Morocco as a strategic ally and a source of stability throughout the region.
The congressional delegation's visit underscores Washington's unwavering determination to strengthen bilateral ties with its Moroccan ally. This commitment was reinforced in December 2020 when former U.S. President Donald Trump announced unambiguous recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara region, a historic decision that significantly bolstered diplomatic relations between the two countries.
As the U.S. commends His Majesty King Mohammed VI's pivotal role in fostering regional stability, the enduring partnership between Morocco and the United States continues to strengthen, underpinned by shared values and a commitment to global peace and prosperity.
