Morocco and Libya Forge Alliance to Enhance Vocational Training

In a significant stride towards enhancing vocational training prospects, Morocco and Libya have solidified their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, inked in the Moroccan city of Tamesna, marks a pivotal moment in the shared commitment of the two nations to advance skills development.

Leading the charge in this landmark agreement were Loubna Tricha, Director-General of Morocco's Office of Vocational Training and Labor Promotion (OFPPT), and Yekhlif Said Sefao Amhimid, Libya's Minister of Technical and Vocational Education. Notable attendees at the signing ceremony included Libyan Ambassador Ibrahim Ataweel and Waleed Addas from the Islamic Development Bank's Rabat office.

While the partnership will initially focus on hosting approximately 20 Libyan trainees annually in Morocco, its ambitions stretch far beyond simple trainee exchanges. OFPPT will embark on a thorough assessment of Libya's vocational training landscape, laying the groundwork for a collaborative action plan tailored to address the nation's specific requirements. This strategic roadmap aims to revamp training curricula, enhance trainer competencies, and bolster technical expertise in key sectors.

Leveraging its extensive experience, OFPPT will facilitate the training of Libyan trainers in priority industries. Furthermore, administrative, technical, pedagogical, and managerial staff from Libyan training institutes will gain access to OFPPT's wealth of knowledge and expertise.

The agreement opens avenues for the establishment of state-of-the-art vocational training centers within Libya, supported by OFPPT's technical assistance. Additionally, it fosters the development of joint training programs in sectors beneficial to both countries, fostering an environment of mutual learning and innovation.

Acknowledging the significance of institutional collaboration, the MoU advocates for twinning programs between vocational training institutes in both nations. This peer-to-peer exchange mechanism promises to disseminate best practices and drive continual improvement in vocational training standards.

Tricha emphasized the broader scope of cooperation envisioned beyond mere trainee placements, while Amhimid highlighted the invaluable expertise Morocco brings to the table. With Morocco and Libya joining forces, the vocational training landscape stands poised for a substantial uplift, empowering the workforce with the requisite skills to thrive in an ever-evolving economic milieu.
