Morocco, Gastronomic Star at the Salon Gourmets in Madrid
Morocco is poised to make a notable entry onto the European gastronomic scene as the guest of honor at the 37th edition of the prestigious Salon Gourmets in Madrid, from April 22nd to 25th. This inaugural participation marks a significant milestone in the Kingdom's quest to promote its authentic flavors and premium products on the international stage.
Regarded as the flagship event for gourmet products and delicatessen in Europe, this prominent gathering will provide a prime showcase for Morocco's rich gastronomy. Occupying an impressive space of 348 square meters, Morocco will showcase its culinary expertise, highlighting the exceptional quality and diversity of its products through the participation of 15 exhibitors representing the fisheries, olive, processed products, and terroir sectors.
Founded over 35 years ago, the Salon Gourmets in Madrid has established itself as an undisputed reference in the European food industry, offering a privileged platform to explore the latest trends and innovations in the sector. It is on this prestigious stage that Morocco intends to establish itself as an essential gourmet destination.
Bilateral trade figures between Morocco and Spain in the agri-food sector reflect steady growth. By the end of November 2023, the value of Moroccan agri-food exports to Spain reached 18.6 billion dirhams, accounting for 25% of the Kingdom's total exports in this sector. In terms of volume, Moroccan exports of agri-food products to Spain reached 661.2 KT in 2023, while processed agricultural products recorded significant growth of 7% compared to 2021, reaching 130 KT. As for seafood products, they experienced a notable growth of 19% compared to 2022, with a volume reaching 163.1 KT.
This participation in the Salon Gourmets in Madrid aims to reinforce this positive momentum by promoting nationally produced high-value-added products, thus fostering the expansion of premium Moroccan products in European markets. With its captivating flavors and exceptional products, Morocco aims to tantalize the most discerning palates and win over new enthusiasts for its millennia-old gastronomy.
