Authorities clarify false online claims involving a Marrakech restaurant

Authorities in Marrakech have officially clarified a viral social media video involving a local restaurant, stating that the widely shared claims of fraud against a foreign tourist are inaccurate and misleading.

The video circulating online alleged that a tourist had been overcharged for a pizza at a restaurant in the city. However, initial investigations conducted by local police have firmly rejected these accusations, stating that the narrative shared on social media does not reflect the actual events.

According to a statement from the local security services, no complaint or official report had been filed regarding the incident before authorities began an inquiry to determine the facts. This investigation was launched following the widespread dissemination of the video and public concern it generated.

Police findings indicate that the recorded incident took place more than a week before the Eid Al-Adha holiday. Preliminary conclusions suggest that the restaurant owner refused entry to the tourist due to her allegedly disruptive behavior and visible state of intoxication at the time.

Investigators also revealed a key detail undermining the online claims: the restaurant in question does not serve pizza. This fact contradicts the central allegation that the tourist was charged an excessive amount for such a dish.

Authorities emphasized that the situation had no connection to fraud, overpricing, or any commercial dispute. Instead, they stated that the video appears to have been misinterpreted and taken out of context, leading to the spread of incorrect information about the establishment and its owner.

The case has highlighted the growing impact of misinformation on social media, where isolated or edited footage can rapidly generate controversy and damage reputations without verified facts.

Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances under which the video was recorded and shared online, as well as to identify those responsible for its dissemination. Officials are also examining whether any legal violations occurred in the spreading of false information.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of verifying information before sharing it, particularly in cases involving sensitive allegations that may affect individuals, businesses, and public trust.
