In a heartbreaking incident that shook the nation, a four-year-old child tragically lost his life at the Rabat-Agdal train station in early November 2023. According to the account shared by the child's mother, Zineb Aloui, on the Instagram page "Justice for Omar," the young boy's curiosity about trains and their workings led him to a devastating fate.

Reeling from the loss of her son, Omar, at the Rabat-Agdal station, Ms. Aloui filed a complaint against the National Office of Railways (ONCF). After several postponements, the Administrative Court of Rabat has finally rendered its judgment in this harrowing case.

The Administrative Court of Rabat has held the ONCF responsible for the child's death, which occurred in November 2023 following a fall from an escalator at the Rabat-Agdal station. Consequently, the ONCF has been ordered to compensate the child's mother with a sum of 500,000 Dirhams as reparation for the moral damages suffered.

Recounting the tragic events, Omar's mother narrated on social media how the young boy fell from a height of approximately 10 meters while ascending the escalator with his father, due to the absence of a protective glass barrier on the side.

Despite medical efforts, Omar succumbed to severe hemorrhaging shortly after arriving at the hospital. The family pursued legal action against the ONCF, asserting that the organization's responsibility was implicated in this devastating tragedy.

A source close to the case expressed profound sorrow over the accident, emphasizing the anguish of losing a child. The source explained that the ONCF's initial silence on the matter was motivated by respect for the family's grief.

Regarding the circumstances, the source clarified that a non-operational escalator had been cordoned off due to a broken glass panel, with appropriate signage and barriers prohibiting access. Tragically, the child and his father accessed this escalator under unlikely circumstances, leading to the fatal accident. Surveillance footage corroborating these details was also provided to investigators.

As the nation mourns this profound loss, the Administrative Court's ruling serves as a somber reminder of the need for heightened safety measures and accountability in public spaces. While no amount of compensation can alleviate the family's pain, the judgment underscores the importance of upholding responsibility and ensuring that such tragedies are prevented in the future.
