Casablanca to develop 10 new suburban train stations

Casablanca –HM  King Mohammed VI launched on Wednesday a series of major railway projects worth 20 billion dirhams to enhance urban mobility in the Casablanca metropolitan area. Among these initiatives is the development of ten new suburban train stations, expected to significantly improve daily commuting.

The new infrastructure will support the upcoming suburban railway service, scheduled to be operational by 2030, with a frequency of up to one train every 7.5 minutes. The project will cover three main lines extending over 92 kilometers, connecting key urban and peri-urban centers while ensuring direct access to strategic sites such as the Hassan II Grand Stadium and Mohammed V International Airport.

The ten new stations, which will be developed within 20 months with a budget of 625 million dirhams, are: Mohammedia – Les Facultés, Zenata, Sidi Bernoussi, Ain Sbâa, Hay Mohammadi, Ville Nouvelle, Mers Sultan, L’Oasis, Sidi Maârouf, and Nouaceur. Existing stations will also be modernized to integrate fully into the suburban network.

Once operational, the service is expected to carry around 150,000 passengers daily across the three lines. In addition, an “Aero-Express” link will connect Casa-Port station to Mohammed V International Airport every 15 minutes, while regional train services will be reinforced on the El Jadida and Settat routes, with shuttles every 30 minutes.
