Universities driving innovation: Advancing artificial intelligence in Morocco

As part of its action plan, the temporary thematic working group on artificial intelligence (AI) and its impacts organized a field visit on Monday, February 17, 2025. The program included stops at the National School of Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization in Berkane, the House of Artificial Intelligence in Oujda, and several research laboratories specializing in AI.

This visit provided a unique opportunity to observe the role of universities in fostering AI applications and innovation. It also created a forum for dialogue between members of Parliament, the President of Mohammed First University in Oujda, researchers, and students. The discussions addressed critical issues such as research and training in AI, its economic and social applications, and strategies to enhance infrastructure and create the necessary conditions for AI development.

A key moment during the visit was the intervention of Anouar Sabri, whose insightful remarks captivated attendees. Sabri highlighted the importance of forging stronger connections between academia and policymakers to support sustainable AI growth. He stressed the need for proactive measures to unlock AI’s potential while addressing its challenges, leaving a lasting impression on participants.

This initiative underscores the commitment of Moroccan institutions to foster innovation in AI, further establishing the country as a hub for technological advancement in the region.
