Laâyoune: 8.6 tons of Hashish seized

Moroccan security services have intercepted a large shipment of cannabis resin in Laâyoune, in the southern part of the country, seizing approximately 8.6 tons of chira in a coordinated operation against international drug trafficking networks.

Joint security operation

The operation was carried out jointly by the judicial police and intelligence services under the Direction Générale de la Sûreté Nationale (DGSN) and the Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire (DGST). Authorities confirmed that the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking routes linking Morocco to sub-Saharan Africa and Europe.

Fight against organized crime

This operation reflects Morocco’s continued efforts to strengthen its fight against organized crime networks involved in narcotics smuggling. Security coordination between intelligence and law enforcement agencies has been increasingly reinforced in recent years.

Ongoing investigation

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding arrests or the circumstances of the seizure. However, officials emphasized that such operations demonstrate the effectiveness of Morocco’s security strategy in tackling international drug trafficking networks.
