Erfoud: Killer of teacher Hajar sentenced to life imprisonment
The criminal chamber of the Errachidia Court of Appeal has decided to increase the sentence of the accused in the murder of teacher Hajar, from 30 years in prison to life imprisonment.
The defendant was found guilty of premeditated murder of a teacher working at the Specialized Institute of Applied Technology (ISTA) in Erfoud. In the first trial, he had been sentenced to 30 years in prison and ordered to pay 300,000 dirhams in compensation to the victim’s family.
The incident dates back to March 27, when the 21-year-old assailant violently attacked the young woman with an axe. The tragedy, which occurred during Ramadan and in front of several witnesses, sparked deep emotion and outrage across the country.
