Iran rejects upcoming talks with US amid nuclear tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has dismissed reports of a planned meeting with the United States next week, directly contradicting a recent claim by President Donald Trump that discussions between the two nations were scheduled.
Speaking in an interview, Araqchi clarified that Iran currently has no intention of engaging in talks with Washington. He added that the Iranian government is still evaluating whether future negotiations with the United States would serve the country’s national interest.
This statement comes after five previous rounds of dialogue were abruptly halted due to joint strikes by the US and Israel on Iranian nuclear facilities. While Washington and Tel Aviv justified the attacks as measures to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, Tehran maintains that its nuclear programme is designed solely for civilian purposes.
Araqchi emphasized that the damage to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure was significant. He noted that Iranian authorities are now reassessing the situation to determine how these developments will shape the country’s diplomatic approach moving forward.
