Spanish police arrest fugitive wanted by Morocco
Spanish authorities have arrested a fugitive sought by Morocco on charges related to human trafficking, marking a new development in cross-border security cooperation between the two countries.
In a statement released on Monday, the Policia Nacional confirmed the detention of a suspect who was the subject of an international extradition request issued by Moroccan authorities.
According to investigators, the individual had allegedly taken deliberate steps to evade arrest. Police said he repeatedly changed his place of residence and telephone numbers in an apparent attempt to avoid detection, while leaving traces in law enforcement databases.
The arrest underscores the operational coordination between Morocco and Spain, particularly in efforts to dismantle networks involved in human trafficking and irregular migration. Security collaboration between Rabat and Madrid has intensified in recent years, reflecting shared concerns over transnational criminal activities.
The suspect is expected to be brought before the competent judicial authorities in Spain to initiate extradition proceedings. If approved, he will be transferred to Morocco, where he will face the charges brought against him.
Officials have not disclosed further details about the case, citing ongoing legal procedures.
