Magnitude 3.3 earthquake shakes northern Meknès
A minor earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale struck the Fès-Meknès region on Wednesday, December 24, at 11:43 p.m. local time (GMT+1), according to the specialized platform Volcano Discovery.
The epicenter was located approximately 15 kilometers north of Meknès. Residents in both Meknès and Fès reported feeling the tremor, which lasted only a few seconds.
While the brief quake caused some alarm, particularly among people living in higher neighborhoods or multi-story buildings, no injuries or property damage have been reported so far.
Seismic activity of this magnitude is relatively common in northern Morocco, a region marked by moderate tectonic activity due to the convergence of the African and Eurasian plates.
