Amazon announces the elimination of nearly 16,000 jobs

U.S. technology giant Amazon announced on Wednesday a major workforce reduction, revealing plans to cut close to 16,000 positions as part of a broader organizational overhaul.

In an official statement, the company explained that the decision aims to streamline its internal structure by reducing management layers and limiting bureaucratic processes. Amazon said the strategy is designed to improve efficiency and speed while maintaining a strong focus on innovation and customer experience.

The group emphasized that support measures will be provided to employees affected by the layoffs, including assistance during the transition period. Company executives stressed that the move is intended to simplify decision-making rather than signal a slowdown in core business activity.

Amazon also stated that it does not currently plan additional job cuts in the coming months, while acknowledging that teams may continue to reassess their structures if operational needs evolve. In 2024, the company employed nearly 1.5 million people worldwide.
