Hyundai registers five new trademarks in Russia
South Korean automaker Hyundai has registered five new trademarks in Russia, according to data from the country’s Federal Service for Intellectual Property, known as Rospatent.
According to official documents, the company submitted five applications in August 2024 and August 2025 for trademarks featuring the Genesis and Hyundai brands. The applications were subsequently approved by Russian authorities, with the registrations finalized in September 2026.
The new registrations cover a wide range of activities beyond traditional automotive operations. They allow the company to use its trademarks in Russia for products and services including surgical robots, prosthetic devices, massage equipment, office supplies, airbags and golf course-related equipment.
The registrations also cover digital services, including downloadable and non-downloadable digital files and virtual products, suggesting that Hyundai is seeking to protect its brands across a broader range of commercial and digital activities.
The move comes despite Hyundai Motor’s withdrawal from direct vehicle production in Russia. In late 2023, the South Korean automaker announced plans to sell its manufacturing facility in St. Petersburg to Russian investment company Art-Finance. The transaction was completed in early 2024, while Hyundai retained an option to buy back the plant within two years of the sale.
Hyundai’s decision to leave the Russian manufacturing market followed the broad sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries in 2022 after the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
The latest trademark registrations do not necessarily indicate an immediate return to vehicle production in Russia, but they demonstrate that Hyundai continues to maintain legal protection for its brands across a range of product and service categories in the Russian market.
