China executes four leaders of Myanmar-based criminal gangs

Chinese authorities have executed four senior figures linked to criminal gangs operating in northern Myanmar, according to state media reports released on Monday.

The individuals were convicted of a series of serious crimes, including intentional homicide, large-scale telecom fraud, and drug trafficking. A Chinese court sentenced them to death in November last year following investigations that uncovered extensive cross-border criminal activities targeting Chinese citizens.

The executions were carried out in the southern city of Shenzhen, in Guangdong province, after final approval was granted by China’s Supreme People’s Court. Authorities said the case reflects Beijing’s firm stance against transnational crime networks and its ongoing campaign to combat telecom scams and drug-related offenses.

In recent years, China has intensified cooperation with neighboring countries to dismantle criminal groups operating along its borders, particularly in regions associated with online fraud and illegal trafficking.
