Tomato prices have soared this week at Casablanca's wholesale market, climbing by 1.30 DH/kg to reach 6.80 DH/kg, compared to 5.50 DH/kg the previous week. Other vegetables have followed a similar upward trend. Onions and courgettes recorded price increases of 0.50 DH/kg and 1.50 DH/kg, respectively, bringing their prices to 5 DH/kg and 5.50 DH/kg. Carrots are selling at 2.80 DH/kg, while cucumbers are priced at 5 DH/kg. Meanwhile, potatoes saw a slight decrease, dropping from 5 DH/kg to 4.50 DH/kg.

Avocados and bananas see price increases in the fruit market

While the fruit market remains largely stable, a few notable price changes were observed. Avocado prices rose by 1 DH/kg to 22 DH/kg, while imported bananas now cost 18 DH/kg. Locally produced bananas increased from 9 DH/kg to 11 DH/kg. Other fruits, such as strawberries (18 DH/kg), locally grown apples (11 DH/kg), and imported apples (23 DH/kg), have maintained their previous price levels.

Meat prices hold steady amid balanced supply and demand

The cost of meat in Casablanca remains unchanged this week. Beef prices continue to range between 75 and 88 DH/kg, while lamb prices hold steady at 115 to 120 DH/kg. This stability reflects a balance between supply and demand, helping to prevent additional upward pressure on prices.

Market oversight ahead of Ramadan preparations

In preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan 1446, a meeting of the ministerial committee responsible for monitoring market supplies and prices was held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Ministry of the Interior. Attended by ministers, senior officials from relevant sectors, and regional governors, the meeting focused on ensuring stable market conditions during this crucial period.

Weekly price bulletin for consumer awareness

Casablanca authorities provide citizens with a weekly bulletin detailing the wholesale prices of the most in-demand meats, fruits, and vegetables. These prices are intended for reference only and may vary depending on the product’s quality and origin. It’s worth noting that the listed prices apply exclusively to the wholesale market and not to retail outlets.
