In a heartening initiative, the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for All (FRMSPT) brought a socio-sports event to 188 inmates at Toulal 2 local prison, Meknes. This event, part of a larger national sports caravan that commenced on July 15, underscores the federation’s commitment to fostering physical activity among all sections of society.

Aziz Lakhal, the director of Toulal 2 prison, emphasized the transformative power of sports within the prison environment. This initiative aligns with the celebrations of King Mohammed VI's 25th year on the throne, reinforcing the strategic vision of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR). Lakhal highlighted the importance of such activities in aiding prisoners’ reintegration into society post-release.

Youssef Chaaraoui, in charge of cultural, artistic, and sports activities at the prison, detailed the extensive educational programs available to inmates. These range from literacy courses to higher education, with 22 detainees recently earning their baccalaureate. Chaaraoui noted that beyond academics, prisoners engage in professional training in fields like electricity, dyeing, and computing, and participate in a variety of cultural and artistic programs.

The DGAPR reported a remarkable achievement this year, with 40.45% of inmate participants passing the 2024 regular baccalaureate session. Out of 1,399 detainees who took the exam, 566 were successful, reflecting a significant increase from the previous year’s results.

Aziz Besbes, a board member of FRMSPT, reiterated the federation's dedication to inclusive sports participation. He underscored the holistic benefits of sports, aligning with the Moroccan constitution’s recognition of sports as a fundamental right. Besbes highlighted the national mass sports caravan’s theme, "Mass Sports: A Fundamental Condition for Building a Healthy Society," and its tour across ten regions, with upcoming stops in Ksar Seghir and Rabat.

Founded in 2009, the Royal Moroccan Federation for Sports for All is steadfast in its mission to promote sports among all age groups across the nation. By fostering a culture of physical activity, the federation aims to enhance the well-being of every citizen and encourage broad-based participation.

This initiative at Toulal 2 prison not only exemplifies the power of sports in social reintegration but also reaffirms the federation’s commitment to inclusive, transformative activities that benefit society as a whole.
