Zelensky meets Meloni in Rome to advance talks on Ukraine war cooperation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held high-level talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
The meeting took place at the Palazzo Chigi, the official residence of the Italian government, where Meloni reaffirmed her country’s strong backing for Kyiv. Italy has consistently positioned itself as a key European ally of Ukraine, providing political, financial, and military assistance since the escalation of the war.
The talks in Rome followed Zelensky’s recent visit to Germany, where he met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz. During that visit, both leaders agreed to deepen defense cooperation, with a particular focus on the development and deployment of drone technologies.
Discussions between Zelensky and Meloni centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation, coordinating European responses, and addressing Ukraine’s immediate security needs. The leaders also emphasized the importance of maintaining unity among Western allies in the face of ongoing geopolitical tensions.
As the conflict continues to reshape the European security landscape, diplomatic engagements such as this highlight the ongoing efforts by Ukraine and its partners to strengthen alliances and ensure sustained support on multiple fronts.
